Startmate is excited to announce our next cohort is currently accepting applications. We are inviting women of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds and LGBTQIA+ to apply. We have created this program with the understanding that gender equality can only move forward, with intersectionality at the forefront.
Why focus on women?
Although we have made huge progress in the last five years, we still have a long way to go until we reach gender parity in the workplace. In 2018, there were more men named James running Fortune 500 companies than there were women; only one CEO on the list of 500 is a woman of colour.
It's these numbers and the lack of action being taken to move the dial on the issue of diversity in the workplace that prompted Melinda Gates to commit US$1 billion to women-focused initiatives in the United States.
Increasing women's participation in STEM is conversation that's at the front of cultural conversations for startup founders and their teams as we still see less women applying for engineering roles in Australia than men.
This is a huge problem for startups as we know diverse and inclusive teams correlate with increased financial performance, and companies with more diverse management teams have 19 per cent higher revenues due to innovation.
The Fellowship
We know increased diversity and inclusion in the Australian workforce won't happen overnight, but we are committed to creating action.
From today, we are seeking applications from women who are currently looking for new career opportunities, have recently completed a contract, are returning to work after parental leave, or are in-between employment. This program is for you.
You don’t need to quit your current job to take part in the program, but we are looking for people who are committed to making a move.
Whether you are a software engineer, operations manager, a graphic designer, or you work in sales and marketing, you will be looking to level-up your career.
Our aim is to connect you to opportunities for huge career gains by introducing you to our startup ecosystem.
